************************************************************************************ Please check the opengenomics.org website for announcements and updates to the Genome Enhancer program. ************************************************************************************ This ReadMe file was last updated on Nov. 2, 2008 The most current version of Genome Enhancer is beta 2.0 and runs with the following update note: "Welcome to Genome Enhancer 2.0 (beta) last updated 10/30/2008" ************************************************************************************ Genome Enhancer can scan any NCBI Genbank formatted genome. To scan a particular genome, the Genome Enhancer program must be in the same folder as that genome. Currently, we have packed Genome Enhancer with six separate genomes, downloaded from the NCBI Genbank FTP site: ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/genomes/ These genomes are from the following releases: INSECTS: Anopheles gambiae: revised assmbly AgamP3, October 2007 Apis mellifera: Build 4, Released July 2006 Drosophila melanogaster: FlyBase Release 4.1, February 2005 Triobolium castaneum: Build 2, Version1 Released June 2008 NEMATODES: Caenorhabditis elegans: WormBase genome release WS150 (February 2006) PLANTS: Arabidopsis thaliana: AGI release (2000) For Machintosh users: Genome Enhancer can run on the G4, the G5, and the new PowerMacs. When you click on a Genome Enhancer package, it will automatically download to your machine, either to a file you have previously specified for downloads, or to the factory preset file called Downloads. So, if you don't see the downloaded Genome Enhancer file, you can easily find it by doing a search for the "Downloads" folder or "GenomeEnhancer." Genome Enhancer is compressed as a zip file. Simply double-click the file to uncompress it, and drag it to the Desktop for ease of use.
